CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The European Physical Society Accelerator Group (EPS-AG) invites nominations for the

2017 EUROPEAN ACCELERATOR PRIZES

The prizes are for individuals with no restriction as to nationality. They are:

a) The Rolf Wideröe Prize for outstanding work in the accelerator field with no age limit. The winner will receive an engraved medal, and make an oral presentation during the Accelerator Prizes Special Session during IPAC’17.

b) The Gersh Budker Prize for a recent, significant contribution to the accelerator field with no age limit. The winner will receive an engraved medal, and make an oral presentation during the Accelerator Prizes Special Session during IPAC’17.

c) The Frank Sacherer Prize for an individual in the early part of his or her career, having made a recent significant, original contribution to the accelerator field. The winner will receive a framed certificate, and a cash prize of 2000 Euros, and will also make an oral presentation during the Accelerator Prizes Special Session during IPAC’17.

d) The Bruno Touschek prize, awarded to a student registered for a PhD or diploma in accelerator physics or engineering or to a trainee accelerator physicist or engineer in the educational phase of their professional career, for the quality of work and promise for the future. Applicants will be judged on the quality of the work submitted to the conference. The winner will receive a framed certificate, and a cash prize of 1000 Euros and will have the opportunity to make a short oral presentation during the Accelerator Prizes Special Session during IPAC’17.

e) Best student posters, awarded to 2 students whose work, presented in the special session for students is particularly meritorious. Each winner will receive a cash prize of 500 Euros, presented during the Accelerator Prizes Special Session during IPAC’17.

 

Apart from these prizes, an additional Industrial Committee Student Poster Award will be given to 2 students whose work, presented in the special session for students, most incorporates criteria relative or applicable to industry. Each winner will receive a cash prize of 500 Euros, to be presented during the Tuesday afternoon “Session on Industry” during IPAC’17.

 

Preliminary Nominations for Prizes a), b) and c), consisting of a brief description of the candidate (date of birth, professional activities) and a justification for the award of the prize must be received by e-mail to juliana [dot] pranke [at] esss [dot] se (Juliana Pranke) by the deadline of: Sunday, 2 October 2016.

The Selection Committee will thereafter request formal proposals to be submitted electronically, for those candidates who will have been shortlisted. Formal proposals must include a curriculum vitae, a list of relevant publications with copies of up to three of the most significant, and letters of reference from one or more proposers, justifying the nomination. Formal proposals must be received by the deadline of: Friday, 2 December 2016.

 

Applications for the young scientist prizes (d) and e) must be made via the appropriate on-line form available via JACoW profiles and accounts of the IPAC’17 Conference Instance. Use the link

Justifications from supervisors/line managers are required to support nominations for prize d). Eligible candidates must apply to be considered for the prizes by the deadline for the submission of abstracts to the conference: Friday, 2 December 2016.

All students presenting work in the special poster session for students are eligible for prize e).
